Tips for Not Overeating
1. Drink plenty of water. Drink about 8 oz. of water before a big meal. It keeps you hydrated and fills you up to keep your belly full. Not to mention, it will even help you lose weight if you continue to drink it regularly.
2. Do not skip any meals. This will actually make you hungrier making it more likely you will splurge on the food.
3. Use a small plate, if possible. A smaller amount of food on a small plate will trick your eyes, brain and stomach into thinking you're eating more. At buffets, fill the plate with mostly vegetables and fruit instead of refined/processed foods – and move away from the buffet!
4. Get Some Fresh Air. Take a quick walk outside for an instant burst of energy and to take your mind off food. You will feel invigorated and your cravings will likely be diminished by the time you come back inside. A walk after dinner will also help digest your meal and reduce feelings of sluggishness.
5. Prepare Nutritious Meals. With a little creativity, you can create healthy holiday foods that taste great and fit right in with the traditional fare. Small changes can make holiday meals much more nutritious. Ask Melissa for our nutritious holiday side recipes.
